The Golden Kite (Canh Dieu Vang) awards show, Vietnam’s most prestigious film awards ceremony, wrapped up in Hanoi Saturday, honoring two features – Hanoi, Hanoi and Ao lua Ha Dong.

Of the seven submitted features, Ao lua Ha Dong (The White Silk Dress), directed by Luu Huynh, and Hanoi, Hanoi, directed by Bui Tuan Dung and Ly Vi won the gold awards for best feature films.

Ao lua Ha Dong relates the misfortunes of its two central characters, Dan and her humpbacked husband, and their efforts to hold on to a precious Ha Dong silk dress that belonged to Dan’s mother.

For the first time in the Golden Kite’s four-year history, best actress was handed to a foreign artist – China’s Gan Tingting, who starred Hanoi, Hanoi.

Quoc Khanh of Ao lua Ha Dong was named best actor.

The best director award belonged to Luu Huynh.

Chay an (Bribe), directed by Vu Hong Son, and the Nha co ba chi em (The Family with Three Daughters), directed by Do Thanh Hai, won the gold awards for best long serial and short TV films.

The awards also honored documentaries, cartoons, and other genres.
