The final contest’s 37 contestants were the winners of 7 regional beauty contests held in Vietnam, the US, Germany, The UK, Canada and former Soviet Republics.
Ngo Phuong Lan
Ngo Phuong Lan, a twenty-year-old Vietnamese student studying in Switzerland, won in the Miss Vietnam World contest on Vietnam’s National Day. Lan said that with her Miss Vietnam title under her belt she would move on with her plan of working for an international social organization in Vietnam to gain experience take advantage of opportunities to travel and study her homeland.
The competition’s first runner-up Teresa Sam, a Chinese Vietnamese from the UK, said that in the end the pressure overcame her and she was unable to answer the questions smoothly.
Dang Minh Thu, the second runner-up, who was moved to tears while recalling her favorite dish her grandmother used to cook, said she would give her US$5,000 to her grandma as well as to charity.
